Giants vs. Panthers Saturday Night Preseason: And Now the Backups…

With the second half underway, the classic pattern of an NFL preseason game begins in earnest.

The backups come to the forefront, all vying to prove their worth as more than mere glorified tackling dummies for the starters during practice.

Already, some of them are showing both the good and the bad.

Giants left tackle Jamon Meredith, competing to possibly win the starting left-tackle spot, makes a great block to spring running back D.J. Ware off tackle.

He then proceeds to commit a false start penalty on the next play.

For Carolina, ex-USC linebacker Thomas Williams comes clean on a blitz and destroy Giants second string quarterback Sage Rosenfels for a loss of about 2,000 yards.
