Auburn Football: More Expected of Clint Moseley in Second Start

Auburn sophomore Clint Moseley reached a big milestone in his career last week, but it did not come under the best of circumstances. Moseley earned his first start as Auburn’s starting quarterback, but playing on the road against No. 1 LSU is about as difficult a scenario there can be for a new starter.

Moseley might have been thrown to the wolves last Saturday, but he showed some flashes of ability despite being sacked six times in a 45-10 loss. He threw for 145 yards on 12-of-20 passing, and gave the coaches enough confidence to let remain under center for this week’s game against Ole Miss.

Both of Moseley’s coaches and teammates were impressed by his ability to remain unflappable under both the pressure of LSU’s defense and the noisy home crowd in Baton Rouge.

“When we went three-and-out and gave up a sack, he’d come to the O-line and say ‘C’mon y’all, we can do it, I still trust you guys, give me a little time,’” lineman John Sullen said to War Eagle Extra. “He’s a very patient guy.”

“When we gave Clint time to throw, I felt like he made some throws", added head coach Gene Chizik. “I felt like he made some throws when he didn’t have time.”

Now, Moseley will have a better chance to show what he can do against a struggling Ole Miss team. He will make his first start at Jordan-Hare Stadium against a Rebels squad that has yet to register an SEC win this season. Winning this game will be crucial for Auburn, as two of their three remaining games are against ranked teams Georgia and Alabama.

Last week against LSU, you could fans expected little from Moseley as someone making his first start against one of the nation’s best defenses. In a game that Auburn will be expected to win easily, he might not feel as much pressure from the opposing defense, but he will be feeling it from Auburn fans.
