NBA Draft Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers Targeting Nikola Vucevic

USC Center Nikola Vucevic Is Climbing Draft Boards After Strong Combine

In an unimpressive draft class, teams looking for NBA-ready big men are beating the bushes for sleeper options. One less-heralded post player getting a lot of buzz lately has been Nikola Vucevic.

Vucevic was All-Pac 10 last season for USC, but occasionally disappeared from games (as in the Trojans’ first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Virginia Commonwealth). Still, his 6’11” frame and solid college productivity had him projected as an early second-round pick.

After the Chicago combine, though, Vucevic could be going much higher. According to ESPN, his impressive measurements (including a 7’5” wingspan) have “teams starting with the Sixers at 16…interested” in drafting him.

Vucevic would be a risk as a first-rounder, considering that college centers who don’t dominate consistently can struggle in the pros (see Gray, Aaron). With the lack of other options, though, don’t be surprised to see a team that needs a center reach for Vucevic and hope he can learn to become more aggressive.
