There were plenty of Harry Redknapp Tottenham rumors bouncing around the football world coming into today, but the Spurs boss has put most of them to rest.
Most notably, Redknapp dismissed the speculation that the club was pursuing Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, the talented young Argentine who had long been associated with a transfer to White Hart Lane.
Sergio Aguero? No. I don’t know anything at all about that one,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News, according to Mirror Football.
“It would surprise us all if that happened. I don’t think there is anything in that one at all.”
Spurs currently sit fifth in the Premiership standings, and trail fourth-place Chelsea by three points. One of their biggest needs all season has been offense, as evidenced in their 4-0 drubbing in the fourth round of the FA Cup, at the hands of Fulham.
Spurs had also gone after Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, but like all of his suitors, were rebuffed by St. James Park.
Redknapp has been pessimistic about his chances of adding to the club, saying that he will be satisfied if the team can maintain their current roster, with as few casualties as possible. He had been linked with Villareal’s Giusseppe Rossi, Atletico Madrid’s Fernando Llorente and Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo, but none of those appear likely to arrive at White Hart Lane any time soon.
