Giants Present Huge Threat for Bears in Week 2 of 2011 NFL Preseason Schedule

Jay Cutler and Chicago Bears return to New York to take on the Giants still unprepared to redeem their abysmal 2010 Week 4 loss when Big Blue recorded an astonishing 10 sacks and concussed Cutler.

Cutler has surely had the displeasure of nightmares leading up to Monday night’s rematch. I’m sure he wakes up in a pool of sweat with vision of Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora each recording three sacks in that epic display of domination. Umenyiora may be shelved with a knee injury, but the G-Men have another freak of nature stepping up to the plate in Jason Pierre-Paul.

JPP destroyed a quality Carolina Panthers defensive line last week as he recorded two sacks. He would have neared five on the night if he played the entire contest. JPP is a one-man wrecking crew, but he will have Tuck assisting him on the opposite side to make sure Cutler continues to fear the G-Men.

Chicago did a fine job revamping their offensive line with the mauling Gabe Carimi out of Wisconsin in the first round of the draft. He may have been a steal and my No. 1 overall offensive tackle, but pass-blocking is not his forte. Even worse, Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz still doesn’t care about protecting his quarterbacks and will continue to have Cutler drop back, back and back in the pocket to wait for a receiver to shake his defender.

The Giants have been blasted since free agency started for cutting fan favorite veterans and letting Steve Smith walk to the Philadelphia Eagles. General manager Jerry Reese did little to improve the team via free agency and is now without Umenyiora.

Big Blue is looking to make a statement on Monday night football to solidify their spot as Super Bowl contenders. They have always let the defensive line set the tone for the entire team and will look for Tuck and JPP to consistently pressure and annihilate any signal-caller lining up behind center to prove doubters wrong and believers right.
