Bowl Projections: Alabama vs. LSU Rematch Is Worst-Case Scenario for Title Game
With Stanford and Boise State losing and Oklahoma State still having the Oklahoma Sooners lying in front of it, there is a strong possibility we will see Alabama and LSU square off in a rematch.
While many would be elated to see the SEC giants duke it out again, it would create a ripple effect that would ultimately dumb down the BCS bowl games as a whole.
We already know what happens when LSU and Alabama square off. It's going to be a defensive struggle determined by field position and a field goal or two. Whether LSU or Alabama would come away with the victory is unclear, but we know exactly what would be to come.
Not only would the rematch give us a transparent BCS title game, it would rob us of the chance to see 'Bama and LSU take on other juggernauts from around the country.
How would Alabama handle Case Keenum and undefeated Houston in the Sugar Bowl?
Would LSU be able to shut down Heisman front-runner Brandon Weeden and Oklahoma State in the national championship game?
What about the preseason No. 1 Sooners taking on the undefeated Tigers with everything on the line?
There are potential marquee matchups we're flushing down the toilet if we see LSU and Alabama go at it again.
They are probably the best two teams in the country. They both deserve a shot at a championship. The fact of the matter is, them going up against other opponents from different conferences provides us with more dream matchups that are must-see TV.
The national championship was decided when the Tigers and Crimson Tide played in the regular season.
Rather than see Alabama fight for revenge, watching the Tide make their mark against a seemingly unstoppable offense while LSU looks to bring another championship to the SEC would be a much more appealing setup for the BCS when the regular season comes to a close.
