Big Ten Tournament 2011: Can Illinois Put It Together and Make a Deep Run?

Big Ten Tournament 2011 is Here Can Illinois Get Some Consistency in Tourney?

The big dance is only a couple of weeks away. Until then, we have a number of teams with major stakes in their respective conference tournaments. One of the most intriguing teams to watch this week is Illinois.

The Fighting Illinis have a favorable draw going into the Big Ten Tournament. They may have the number five seed, but they play the number four Michigan Wolverines on Friday. The last time this group played was on February 16th. It took two late free throws to do the Wolverines in.

That is by no means a contest Illinois should feel confident about. Michigan could have easily tied the game with a couple of late desperation shots that failed to fall through.

The main concern here is consistency. Illinois has been up and down all season. The team that makes a deep run in March has a great deal of heat going from them. I just don't know what team will show up for the tournament.

The annihilated Indiana to close out the season. You always want to see a team make a statement at the end, but it came against the lowly Hoosiers. You have to note that this team lost in their previous game to Purdue. That is a team they will have to play if they hope of taking home the big prize this weekend.

There is a lot to like about Illinois. They just have not shown it consistently in big games. That is the fear. There is nothing but big games from here on out.
