2011 NHL Playoffs: Carolina Hurricanes vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Despite getting 12 shots on goal in the first period, the Carolina Hurricanes were unable to get any past Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Mike Smith.

Tampa Bay got off to a quick start, scoring the games first goal at the 06:45 when Dominic Moore got one past Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward.

Tampa followed the first goal up with two more when Vincent Lecavalier scored at the 11:19 mark, followed by the third and final goal of the period at 13:17 when Steven Stamkos hammered home his 45th goal of the season.

If the game should continue to go in Tampa's favor and the Lightning prevail it would set up a first round matchup between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals.

On paper it would appear as if the Capitals would have a huge advantage over the Rangers, but one cannot forget that the Rangers own a pair of rather convincing wins over the Capitals this season, including a 7-0 and 6-0 win.
