2011 NFL Mock Draft: Who Will Help Rex Ryan and the Jets Reach the Super Bowl?
Kiper: Rahim Moore, S UCLA
McShay: Phil Taylor, NT Baylor
Kirwan: Akeem Ayers, OLB UCLA
Rang: Brooks Reed, OLB Arizona
Reuter: Jabaal Sheard, DE, Pittsburgh
My pick: Muhammad Wilkerson, DT Temple
It's clear the Jets will be adding to an already strong defense. With the 30th pick in the draft there aren't many great offensive options for Rex Ryan and New York. The Jets could draft a receiver here since their top two are currently not under contract.
However, there best option is to draft a defensive player. Kiper's mock draft was done almost a month ago, which to me means he felt really good about that mock to not update it at all during March. I guess he decided to wait until most of the pro days were finished. Either way, his pick of the safety from UCLA doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
New York's biggest needs are up front on the defensive line. That is why I have Muhammed Wilkerson being drafter here. The 6'4" 315-pound has too much talent for the Jets to pass up. His ability to shed blocks and disrupt plays in the back field is superb. He would no doubt be a top 10 pick if he stayed in college for one more year.
